Anna's Place and The Coop — Honoring Decades of Western Legacy at 1881 Park

Introducing Anna’s Place and The Coop at 1881 Park at LiveWindler—a community gathering place rooted in the history of the land and designed for the way people live today.
For six generations, the Windler family homesteaded this property, building a life and legacy that became deeply connected to the land. When the family was approached about selling the property, they had one important request: honor their family’s legacy.
That request became the inspiration behind the design.

The Design Story: Anna's Place and The Coop
Our goal was to create interiors that feel like a modern extension of a life well lived on the land—not a recreation of the past, but a thoughtful interpretation of it. Throughout Anna’s Place and The Coop, the story of the Windler family and the original homestead is woven into the experience through materials, photographs, artifacts, and details that connect residents to the history of the place they now call home.
Salvaged barn materials from the original 1880s homestead were incorporated throughout the spaces, bringing authentic character and a tangible connection to the property’s past. Historic photographs help tell the story of the family who lived here, while subtle references to the Western lifestyle—from material selections to furnishings and curated details—create a sense of place without feeling overly literal.

The result is a collection of spaces that feels both familiar and fresh. Warm, welcoming, and layered with history, Anna’s Place and The Coop were designed to feel less like a traditional clubhouse and more like the heart of a community—a place where residents can gather, linger, connect, and make their own memories.
Today, residents can enjoy the clubhouse, gather with friends in the beer garden, and let their four-legged family members run free in the dog park. And the story will continue to unfold with the upcoming museum, where additional pieces of the original Windler homestead will be preserved and displayed for future generations to experience.

The Coop — A Backyard Beer Garden

For us, this project was about more than creating beautiful spaces. It was about understanding the significance of the land, listening to the family’s story, and finding meaningful ways to carry that story forward.
We’re incredibly honored to have been part of bringing Anna’s Place and The Coop to life—and especially grateful to the talented partners who helped make the vision possible: the team at Fellows Companies and Alberta Development Partners, DTJ Design, Waner Construction and the 1881 Park community at Windler.
Good history. Good stories. Good humans. Good design.
